Airman First Class
A junior enlisted US Air Force grade, E-3 and NATO OR-3, held by airmen gaining skill in their specialty.
Overview
Airman First Class, abbreviated A1C, wears two chevrons with a star in the center, between the single chevron of Airman and the three of Senior Airman. Airmen typically reach the grade within their first year or so of service, often while completing technical training and arriving at their first assignment. A1Cs are expected to perform their duties with growing independence, earn the skill level ratings of their career field, and absorb Air Force standards of conduct. The grade holds no supervisory authority, which begins with promotion to staff sergeant, but it represents the bulk of the junior workforce that keeps aircraft and systems running.
